Photographs show what rooms look like; they say almost nothing about how a property fits together. Does the kitchen open onto the garden? Is the third bedroom really a bedroom? How far is the bathroom from the master? Buyers and tenants ask layout questions first, and a flat 2D drawing answers them only for the minority who read technical plans comfortably.

Walls have height, floors have colour and texture, and each room contains furniture drawn to true scale — so a viewer sees in a second that the double bed fits with room to walk around it, or that it doesn't.
